I am planning a series of music classes for 2010. What types of music interest you? What would you like to learn? What musical topics would you like me to write about in this blog?

Free Class - About the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet

In one of my previous classes on eduFire, I played music by the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet (LAGQ). The students enjoyed the music and asked for a class about this group. Click here to reserved a spot for this free class on Sunday, Dec.20th, 11 AM (EST). I'll provide a brief introduction, play some of their music, and look forward to your questions and comments.

radiOM.org

The music industry is a very conservative business. Multimedia works, avant-garde compositions, experimental music, etc. are some forms that are rarely heard. Classical radio stations use a "safe" playlist to maximize the most listeners and to attract the most advertising dollars.

radiOM provides the listener with a variety of music for the uncommon ear. In their own words,

"Other Minds (based in San Francisco) welcomes you to radiOM[ray-dee-om].org — the website that brings you the sounds of revelationary new music and the voices of the revelationists themselves.

Our offerings include interviews with some of the most influential composers of our time including Lou Harrison, Brian Eno, John Cage, Laurie Anderson, György Ligeti, and Anthony Braxton.

We also offer concerts, sound poetry performances, lectures and documentaries in classical music, jazz, experimental music and other forms."

It is a site well worth visiting. You can also hear some music of György Ligeti played by the Kronos Quartet at my Online Music Project.

Music 2.0, Essays by Gerd Leonhard

The internet has changed the way we listen to, access, market, and think about music. Music 2.0, Essays by Gerd Leonhard, is an excellent eBook. It provides interesting thoughts and ideas about music and the internet as a distribution medium. The book use to be available as a free download.  However, it appears an updated version is available through Lulu.

Classrooms Without Walls

Classrooms Without Walls' uses the internet to bring people from different cultures together online to discuss music. It allows people from around the world to discuss music online, become friends, and learn from each other's cultures. I'm a strong believer that people have more in common than different.

Classrooms Without Walls' also explores ways to use the internet to broadcast music. Click here to learn about our Online Music Project.  And, enjoy some Christmas music!
