In one of my previous classes on eduFire, I played music by the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet (LAGQ). The students enjoyed the music and asked for a class about this group. Click here to reserved a spot for this free class on Sunday, Dec.20th, 11 AM (EST). I'll provide a brief introduction, play some of their music, and look forward to your questions and comments.
The music industry is a very conservative business. Multimedia works, avant-garde compositions, experimental music, etc. are some forms that are rarely heard. Classical radio stations use a "safe" playlist to maximize the most listeners and to attract the most advertising dollars.
Our offerings include interviews with some of the most influential composers of our time including Lou Harrison, Brian Eno, John Cage, Laurie Anderson, György Ligeti, and Anthony Braxton.
The internet has changed the way we listen to, access, market, and think about music. Music 2.0, Essays by Gerd Leonhard, is an excellent eBook. It provides interesting thoughts and ideas about music and the internet as a distribution medium. The book use to be available as a free download. However, it appears an updated version is available through Lulu.
Classrooms Without Walls' uses the internet to bring people from different cultures together online to discuss music. It allows people from around the world to discuss music online, become friends, and learn from each other's cultures. I'm a strong believer that people have more in common than different.
Welcome to Random Thoughts a place where I'll share thoughts on a variety of topics.
